Collect of the Day – Fr. Jon

Celebrant: Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord’s resurrection, may, by your life-giving Spirit, be delivered from sin and raised from death; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Old Testament Reading – Michele Ruby

Isaiah 25:6-9

A reading from the Prophet Isaiah.

On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food, a feast of well-matured wines,
of rich food filled with marrow, of well-matured wines strained clear.
And he will destroy on this mountain
the shroud that is cast over all peoples,
the sheet that is spread over all nations;
he will swallow up death for ever.
Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces,
and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth,
for the Lord has spoken.
It will be said on that day,
Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us.
This is the Lord for whom we have waited;
let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

Reader: The word of the Lord
People: Thanks be to God.

The Psalm – Hannah Smith

Psalm 118:14-17,22-24

Let’s read the Psalm responsively this morning:

The Lord is my strength and my song, *
and has become my salvation.

The voice of joy and deliverance is in the dwellings of the righteous; *
the right hand of the Lord brings mighty things to pass.

The right hand of the Lord is exalted; *
the right hand of the Lord brings mighty things to pass.

I shall not die, but live, *
and declare the works of the Lord.

The same stone which the builders refused *
has become the chief cornerstone.

This is the Lord’s doing, *
and it is marvelous in our eyes.

This is the day that the Lord has made; *
we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Gloria Patri

Glory be ☩ to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

The New Testament Reading – Tom Ruby

Colossians 3:1-4

A reading from Paul’s letter to the Colossians.

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

Reader: The word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.

Gospel Gradual – Please Stand

The Gospel Reading – Dcn. John

Mark 16:1-8

Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Mark.
People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, ‘Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?’ When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, ‘Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.’ So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Sermon – Fr. Ryan

Swallowing Death

Nicene Creed

All Together:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit He became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried.

On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, ☩ and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People – Hannah Smith

Almighty God, Maker of heaven and earth, redeemer of the sinful, sustainer of the faithful, and lover of all whom You have made, unleash in us the fullness of joy, that having been made one with You, we may find our lives no longer defined by the fear of death. Make us a people who are alive to You and to Your purposes for this world.

Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Gracious Father, we pray for your holy catholic Church. Fill her with all truth. Where she is corrupt, purify her; where she is in error, direct her; where in anything she is amiss, reform her; where she is walking in faithfulness, strengthen her; where she is persecuted, protect her; where she is in need, provide for her; where she is divided, reunite her; for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son our Savior.

Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Father of All Mercies, we ask you in your goodness to comfort and sustain all who in this transitory life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness or any other adversity. We entrust ourselves and all we know and love to your loving-kindness, remembering especially today: ______ (please say aloud or silently the name(s) of any people you want to commend to the Lord’s care).

Priest: Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for the sake of Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Advocate, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Invitation to Confession – Deacon John

Prayer of Confession, said all together:

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.  We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in Your will, and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your name. Amen.

The Mystery of Faith

Celebrant continues: We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father…

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of Humble Access

The Agnus Dei

Celebrant: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world,

Celebrant: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world,
People: Have mercy on us.
Celebrant: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world,
People: Grant us your peace.

Celebrant: The gifts of God for the people of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.

In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light my strength my song
This Cornerstone this solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love what depths of peace
When fears are stilled when strivings cease
My Comforter my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

There Is A Redeemer

There is a Redeemer
Jesus God’s own Son
Precious Lamb of God Messiah
Holy One

Thank You O my Father
For giving us Your Son
And leaving Your Spirit
Till the work on earth is done

Jesus my Redeemer
Name above all names
Precious Lamb of God Messiah
O for sinners slain

When I stand in glory
I will see His face
There I’ll serve my King forever
In that holy place

Because He Lives

Amen amen
I’m alive I’m alive because He lives
Amen amen
Let my song join the one that never ends
(Because He lives)

I believe in the Son
I believe in the Risen One
I believe I overcome
By the power of His blood

I was dead in the grave
I was covered in sin and shame
I heard mercy call my name
He rolled the stone away

Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives ev’ry fear is gone
I know He holds my life
My future in His hand

Prayer of Mission

Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious body and blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal Kingdom.

And now Father, send us out to do the work  you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.

Blessing – Fr. Jon

Recessional: Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee

Joyful joyful we adore Thee
God of glory Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee
Opening to the sun above

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day

All Thy works with joy surround Thee
Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays
Stars and angels sing around Thee
Center of unbroken praise

Field and forest vale and mountain
Flowery meadow flashing sea
Chanting bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee

Thou art giving and forgiving
Ever blessing ever blest
Wellspring of the joy of living
Ocean depth of happy rest

Thou our Father Christ our Brother
All who live in love are Thine
Teach us how to love each other
Lift us to the joy divine

Mortals join the mighty chorus
Which the morning stars began
Father love is reigning o’er us
Brother love binds man to man

Ever singing march we onward
Victors in the midst of strife
Joyful music lifts us sunward
In the triumph song of life
