Skeptics Are Welcome

  • question markAre you uncertain about Christian faith (or any faith for that matter)?
  • Do you distrust organized religion?
  • Do you wonder about the reliability of the Bible or the historicity of Jesus?
  • Have you encountered some mean-spirited Christians in the past?
  • Do you dislike being manipulated or “sold” something?

Space to Process

We’re opposed to manipulative, sales-pitchy kinds of faith sharing. Actually, when people commodify the Christian faith and try to mass market it or coerce people with it, the faith gets distorted, often beyond recognition. So, not only is it annoying to be on the receiving end of that kind of a pitch, it’s totally counter-productive. Our commitment is that you won’t be manipulated, sold something, guilted, or shamed into faith (as if that actually works anyway!).

What you will experience is honest, straightforward teaching about the Christian faith. No sugar coating, no avoidance of hard topics, no pandering. You’ll meet unpretentious people and hear stories of those who have had their lives substantially changed by Jesus. You’ll be able to observe people who are committed to Christian faith as they worship, pray, serve the community, and love each other. You’ll encounter a very imperfect group of people who are all in process in one way or another, so you’ll have plenty of tangible evidence for a core Christian doctrine (universality of sin). But most of all, we hope you will meet Jesus.

And, by the way, your honest questions and skepticism are important for people of faith to hear and wrestle with. Our goal is to nurture a community life that has room for doubts and questions while not apologizing for the fact that we are a “faith community.”

If you’re looking for a great place to explore the faith, we hope you will check out our weekly Formation | Catechesis. It’s designed to be a place for inquiry, learning, and discussion.

It’s All About the Bread

BreadIt’s been famously said that Christianity is really just one beggar telling another where he found bread. That’s our story. We don’t claim to be better than others. We’ve just discovered that life is both unmanageable and undesirable without God. Perhaps you’ll discover the same. Either way, you’re welcome here!

Eucharist Church is a congregation in San Francisco connecting ancient forms of worship and classic Christian faith to the lives of 21st-century people.
